I'm not very close to my aunt and uncle that live in Florida. They lived there since before I was born so I didn't get a real chance to get to know them.
Well...I mailed them a Christmas card this year......nice gesture right? I in years past haven't sent them a card---I did last year but not before that.
I signed, love Brian...
My aunt called my grandma to complain that I hadn't been more personal. That she was disappointed that I didn't write more than just my name.
I wish I could just let it go but it's been bothering me since. It made me kind of wish I just hadn't sent a card to begin with.
I mailed Rae Chelle a card at WIBW and then felt that I should write everyone one because I didn't want to leave anyone out.
Do you get into the X-mas card writing or did you give it up a long time ago? So far I haven't gotten one this year...lol.....*sigh.
Hope everyone had a great Friday!
Brian

I can't imagine someone being offended by a card, especially if you haven't seen them for months.
At my house, we have not received a single card yet.
Oh I know. I was taken back as well! It's just a joke. If you want to e-mail me your address and I'll send a card this afternoon to your family. Maybe I would have better luck with a stranger. Haha. Newsbreaker99@aol.com & Merry Christmas my friend!

I haven't sent out a single card this year. I just can't get in the spirit.
I'm sure that if I were in your shoes, with the aunt, that would have been the last card I sent to them.

By your own admission: "I'm not very close to my aunt and uncle that live in Florida. They lived there since before I was born so I didn't get a real chance to get to know them."
So here's my take; if you don't really know them as you say, and your information is second or third hand, then how do you really know they were upset, or if they were, what they were upset about? Did you call them to enquire?
Doesn't sound reason require you (an avowed news person) to dig in and explore the issue for some basic facts or at the very least, take a rational approach with a kind follow-up phone call to touch base and to try to get to know them better?
I say the ball is in YOUR court. If you want to reach out then really reach out, don’t just send an impersonal card with only a signature that one time in your life. Take responsibility for this situation, if you want a fair approach in return!
It sounds to me from what you said, that maybe they might actually want to know you better. It is easy now to point a finger at them, but be the bigger man and really try next time with a visit (you did say Florida, right!) or a warm, embracing phone call.
But, maybe the question really is: do you seriously want them to know YOU?
